What to see at the Château-Musée de Tournon-sur-Rhône? The collections and terraces
Crossing the castle threshold means stepping back in time. Awarded the official "Musée de France" label, this unique site combines the architecture of a medieval fortified castle with rich museum collections. Room after room, prestigious treasures reveal themselves—such as a remarkable 16th-century triptych or collections tracing the epic history of the Rhône boatmen. Inside, you will uncover the history of the Counts of Tournon, unlock the secrets of suspension bridges and Rhône river navigation, and admire works by local artists.
Among the stories surrounding the castle, it's impossible to miss the tragic tale of Hélène de Tournon... The beautiful Hélène died of a broken heart. Her story is even said to have inspired Shakespeare for his character Ophelia, who consumed herself with love for Hamlet.

Les visites guidées
Dès les beaux jours, du 8 juillet au 23 août, profitez des visites guidées estivales. Accompagnés d'un guide passionné, vous pousserez les portes des salles du Château au fil des anecdotes et des secrets de la prestigieuse famille des Comtes de Tournon.

Le reste de l'année, des visites guidées pour les groupes sont possibles sur réservation en contactant le Château-musée !
Les Journées Européennes du Patrimoine
Enfin pour terminer l’année, profitez du Château-Musée de Tournon-sur-Rhône lors des Journées Européennes du Patrimoine ! Le 19 et 20 septembre l’accès est gratuit de 10h à 12h et de 14h à 18h.

How to get here:
By car: 1 hour south of Lyon, 30 min from Valence. A7 Highway, Exit 13 "Tain l’Hermitage, Romans, Tournon sur Rhône".
Parking: Free limited-time parking (1h30, 4h, or 8h) located 300 meters away on Quai Farconnet.
By train: Tain l’Hermitage SNCF train station (15 min walk).
Accessibility: "Due to its historic architecture, the site is unfortunately not accessible to people with reduced mobility (PRM)."
