In 1648, he composed Jephté, a biblical oratorio that has become one of the absolute masterpieces of the Italian Baroque.

Bound by an irrevocable vow, Jephté is compelled to offer his only daughter, a young virgin promised as a sacrifice, to God.

These timeless pages, with their striking expressive power, are a musical expression of spiritual fervor and intense theatricality.
