Description
This program of sacred music highlights the artistic filiation between Monteverdi and Charpentier, through the central figure of Carissimi, an eminent representative of the Roman school.
Sacred music by C. Monteverdi, G. Carissimi, M.A. Charpentier
Les Passions, Montauban Baroque Ensemble
Ensemble vocal Dulci Jubilo,
Christopher Gibert and Jean- Marc Andrieu (conductors)
In 1648, he composed Jephté, a biblical oratorio that has become one of the absolute masterpieces of the Italian Baroque.
Bound by an irrevocable vow, Jephté is compelled to offer his only daughter, a young virgin promised as a sacrifice, to God.
These timeless pages, with their striking expressive power, are a musical expression of spiritual fervor and intense theatricality.
