Die mittelalterliche Stadt Tournon liegt am Rhône Ufer am Fuß ihres majestätischen Schlosses herum. Seit dem Mittelalter bis zum 17. Jahrhundert haben die Herren von Tournon ein reiches gebautes Erbe gelassen. Im 13. Jahrhundert wurde die erste Stadtmauer gebaut, wo sich heute die Fußgängerstraβe befindet.
Auf der Straße markiert immer noch ein altes mittelalterliches Tor, an dem
heute noch das Wappen der Stadt mit ihrem Motto „Turris Fortissima“ („kräftige
Stadt dank ihrer Türmen“ ) hängt, den Eingang der Altstadt.
2 Türmen von der Stadtmauer des 16. Jahrhunderts bleiben noch Norden und Süden eines Panoramawanderwegs stehen.
