Saint Donat sur l'Herbasse - Historisches Zentrum

Beschreibung

Willkomen in "Vicus Jovensiacus" oder "Jovis Viens": das Viertel von Jupiter. Dort könnten wir einen Tempel gewidmet Jupiter finden. Nach den Einzug des Christentums wurde die Stadt Jovincieu gennant.
Im 1732, als der Ankuft die Sarazene Truppe im Südfrankreich, wurde Corbus, der Bischof von Grenoble, dort sich zum Schutz geflücht. Dort lasste er die Reliquien des historisches Sankt Donat.
Anstelle die Ruinen des Jupiter Tempel wurde eine Kirche erbaut um die Reliquien zu beherbergen.
Die Stadt wurde einen Wallfahrtsort geworden.
Während der Zweiten Weltkrieg war Sankt Donat eine sehr wichtiges Stadt des Wiederstandes.
Heute ist Sankt Donat eine schöne Stadt für Kulturgut-Liebhaber une Feinschmecker. In the Middle Ages, the village remained huddled within its ramparts. Its development was linked to the digging of a cabal to divert the waters of Herbasse. Hydraulic powser was used to turn mills and, from the Renaissance onwards, various workshops to produce hemp and paper pulp. The major expansion of the village took place in the 18th and 19th centuries with the establishment of "factories": spuinning mills and silk mills, followed by shoe factories.

During the Second World War, Saint Donat played an important role in organising the Resistance and welcolmed many refugees, including Louis Aragon and Elsa Triolet. The inhabitants were deeply affected by the Nazi army's day of reprisals on June 15th 1944.

In the Donation countryside, crops are adapted to the sandy soil: market gardening and arboriculture.
